What Did The Whitsunday Sports Park Lighting Upgrade Require?

The project required an upgrade to the sports lighting infrastructure at Whitsunday AFL Oval in Airlie Beach.

GAP Industries North Queensland delivered a combination of new pole infrastructure and retrofit works to existing poles. This allowed new Musco LED lighting equipment to be installed while suitable existing electrical infrastructure was retained and integrated into the upgraded system.

The scope required coordination between replacement works, existing assets and the new lighting components so the upgrade could be delivered as one complete sports lighting project.

Scope Of Sports Lighting Works Delivered

25 Metre Lighting Pole Replacement

GAP Industries North Queensland replaced one 25 metre lighting pole as part of the upgrade at Whitsunday Sports Park.

The replacement pole supported the Musco LED sports lighting system and formed part of the upgraded field lighting infrastructure at Whitsunday AFL Oval.

Retrofit Works To Existing Poles

GAP Industries North Queensland completed retrofit works to existing lighting poles rather than replacing all existing pole infrastructure.

New cross arms were installed and existing fittings were removed to allow the new Musco LED fixtures to be fitted.

Retaining suitable existing infrastructure helped limit unnecessary replacement work while allowing the lighting system to be upgraded.

Musco LED Sports Lighting Fixtures

The project included six Musco LED fixtures per pole.

The upgraded lighting system supported stronger illumination across Whitsunday AFL Oval and clearer visibility for players, officials and spectators during night games.

The new fixtures formed part of the broader upgrade to the oval’s sports lighting infrastructure.

Reuse Of Suitable Existing Submains

Suitable existing submains were retained and integrated into the upgraded lighting system.

This reduced unnecessary replacement work and helped limit additional materials and waste while maintaining the existing infrastructure where it remained suitable for integration.

GAP Industries North Queensland combined the retained submains with the new sports lighting components as part of the overall electrical upgrade.

Integration With Existing Electrical Infrastructure

The project required the new Musco LED sports lighting system to be integrated with electrical infrastructure already installed at Whitsunday Sports Park.

GAP Industries North Queensland coordinated the new pole, retrofit works, lighting fixtures and retained submains as part of the upgraded system.

This approach allowed new lighting infrastructure to be installed without replacing suitable existing assets unnecessarily.

Lighting Performance And Infrastructure Reuse

The Musco LED system supported improved lighting uniformity across Whitsunday AFL Oval.

Consistent sports lighting helps reduce glare and shadows, supports ball tracking and provides clearer playing conditions for AFL night games.

Where existing infrastructure remained suitable, GAP Industries North Queensland retained and integrated those assets into the upgraded system. This helped reduce unnecessary replacement work, installation time and material waste.

Supporting AFL Night Games And Community Sport

Whitsunday Sports Park supports AFL and community sport in Airlie Beach.

The completed works upgraded the lighting infrastructure serving Whitsunday AFL Oval and supported use of the playing surface for night games and regular community sporting activity.

The project combined new Musco LED fixtures with replacement and retrofit works across the existing sports lighting infrastructure.

Regional Sports Lighting Delivery In The Whitsundays

The works were delivered in Airlie Beach within the Whitsunday Region of North Queensland.

GAP Industries North Queensland delivered the electrical and sports lighting scope for Musco Lighting Australia Pty Ltd, including new infrastructure, retrofit works and integration with existing electrical assets.

The project demonstrates the capability of GAP Industries North Queensland to deliver sports lighting projects across regional North Queensland, including the Whitsundays.

Compliance, Safety And Quality Controls

The works were delivered in line with relevant AS/NZS requirements and GAP Industries North Queensland project delivery standards.

GAP Industries North Queensland operates under ISO 9001 quality management processes, supporting planning, delivery, documentation and review across electrical project works.

For Whitsunday Sports Park, these controls supported the 25 metre pole replacement, retrofit works, LED fixture installation, reuse of suitable submains and integration with existing electrical infrastructure.

Project Outcome

GAP Industries North Queensland completed the $100,822.12 sports lighting upgrade at Whitsunday Sports Park on 31 March 2026.

The completed works combined one new 25 metre lighting pole, retrofit works to existing poles, new cross arms, removal of existing fittings, six Musco LED fixtures per pole and reuse of suitable existing submains.

By combining new lighting infrastructure with suitable existing assets, GAP Industries North Queensland delivered a practical upgrade to the AFL lighting infrastructure at Whitsunday Sports Park.

The completed project supports AFL night games, community sport and ongoing use of Whitsunday AFL Oval.
